• How is the year divided?
    The academic year starts in early September and ends in mid-June, with 2 week holidays for Christmas and Easter.
  • What are the school hours?
    The school day starts at 8:40am and classes at 8:50am, ending at 3:15pm, Monday through Friday. There are eight 40 minute periods each day, with a mid-morning as well as lunch break.
  • How large are the classes?
    An average sized Junior school class would contain approx. 18 pupils and in the Senior school the average is about 13 – 15 pupils.
  • What languages are taught in the School?
    Apart from English, there are classes in Modern Greek, French, Russian, Arabic and Mandarin Chinese.
  • What contact do parents have with the school?
    We encourage and maintain close contact with the parents.
    (a) Regular “Parent – Teacher evenings” are held at which parents meet teachers and discuss their children’s progress.
    (b) Each teacher is available for ˝ hour every week to see a parent anxious to speak to the teacher over a serious matter requiring attention. Indeed teachers frequently take the initiative by contacting parents first.
  • What if my child knows little or no English?
    Our school has built up extensive experience in the teaching of English as a second language. There is an E.F.L. class (they are very small, between 1 – 5 pupils) at every level, including classes for pupils who have to learn the English language ab initio.
  • What happens if a child is absent?
    (a) In the case of any absence, a letter of explanation must be provided by parents upon the return of the child to school.
    (b) The school reserves the right to ask for the withdrawal of a child after an extended absence for reasons other than illness.
    (c) It also reserves the right to keep a child in the same class for more than one year if for any reason too much work has been missed and the child is not up to the standard of the rest of the form.
  • What arrangements are made for transport?
    The School is served by a network of school buses which collect children from most parts of the Greater Athens area.Transport arrangements should be made at the time of registration.
  • Is Health Education taught?
    Yes it is, for 4 months per year for 2 years to children in their most formative years when they are 11 and 12 years old and it deals with topics such as alcohol, drugs, hygiene, smoking, bullying, peer pressure etc.
  • Are there trips abroad?
    Yes, every year. In previous years, our pupils have travelled to England, the U.S., Austria, France, Egypt, Turkey, Italy, Portugal etc.
  • What about day trips/excursions?
    Visits/excursions/outings to places of local interest are an on-going process the academic year round, be they the zoo, museums, observatories, farms, theatres, workshops, woodlands, university departments, book exhibitions, factories, airports, art galleries, street markets etc. We probably average 30 – 40 such visits annually.
